U&LC MAGAZINE

Rebranding a retro type magazine.

About the project

This U&lc Magazine redesign had three parts: a recreation of the masthead, a magazine cover, and a new layout for an article. For the masthead, I wanted to create a design reminiscent of the 1970s, when the magazine was first published. For the layout, I took inspiration from vertical and minimal design styles often seen in Asian graphic posters to match the Chinese Zodiac content of the article.

Process

Redesigning the masthead took many sketches and iterations. I focused on a hand-lettered direction to create a unique look and organic feel for the type magazine.
